About Us

How can we help?

As the region’s leading business membership organisation, our role is to provide a network and offer support that facilitates the establishment and development of Borders-based businesses.

The business community is the engine room of our local economy and the impact this has influences not only commercial success but the advancement of our people and the place too.

Our vision is to make a difference to the inclusive advancement of the people of the Scottish Borders, both in terms of economic performance and social well-being.

From the early days of a new business start-up, a business and its people have to develop to survive and thrive.

Development is an area where most business leaders and owners often need extra support and this is what we provide for our members. Whether they are looking to develop their people, product or service, we aim to support them with their plans.

The benefits of mentoring are well evidenced, both in terms of professional and personal growth.

We provide a Mentor Matching Service for business owners, managers, or any team members. Our members can submit an application to become a mentee by clicking the button below.

We know our community is rich with skilled, experienced, and knowledgeable business people who are keen to support others. Our job is to be a facilitator in the dissemination of this skill, experience, and knowledge and we do this by working with people who are keen to become mentors. Anyone can submit an application to become a member by clicking the button below

As a voluntary position, the role of Director doesn’t offer any monetary remuneration but is an ideal opportunity for an individual’s personal and professional development.

We run a rolling programme of recruitment for succession planning, so if you have passion for business and a love for the Scottish Borders, we’d be delighted to hear from you.

If you would like to speak to our Chair about what is involved in becoming a Director of the Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Bringing on the best people at the right time is critical for ongoing business development and growth.

At the same time, the region’s employers have a role to play in raising the bar on employment opportunities that will see highly motivated and skilled people choosing to work either within the region or for an organisation based in the region.

Launching soon, we will offer an online employment opportunity jobs board, where members can promote job opportunities within their own organisation. The jobs board can be viewed by anyone visiting our website – bringing together employees and employers.

In terms of the first line of support we can offer, we will source and publish a range of reports and plans to inform business decision-making.

If there is a report, survey, plan or paper we do not have but provides valuable information, please contact us with details and we will source the content.

Together our voice is louder. That’s the approach we take to lobbying both the UK and Scottish Governments. We speak with our members, identify common areas of concern or opportunity, and approach as a collective.

If you have any concerns or points you would like highlighted at UK or Scottish Government level please get in touch.

If you are looking to expand your reach much further afield, we can support you with information, guidance, and contacts for international trade and exporting.

Our Strategy

In April 2021, the Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce launched its strategy for 2021 to 2024, clearly identifying the organisation’s vision mission, and values, underpinned by five strategic themes.

The strategy acknowledges the indirect role the Chamber plays in influencing and impacting the success of not only the businesses within the region but the lives and livelihoods of those who choose to live and work here too.
